Hotel Chimera is an 8 story boutique hotel that takes guests on a theatrical adventure, bringing on many cinematic experiences. It combines a playful aesthetic with an entertainment value, alongside an aim to promote curiosity. Within this project, the development of a brand experience was prioritized to create a seamless exciting experience to allow visitors to enjoy many elements of surprise that contribute to the aura and story of Chimera.

Due to the glass circular elevator being the main elevator for Hotel Chimera, I wanted guests and visitors to experience a narrative as they go up with each level. The transition space in front of the elevator on each floor forms part of a playful cinematic scene that changes as you go up. This adds an element of surprise that expresses Chimera‘s unpredictable energy and adds to the lively experience.

Chimera forms a lively creature that embodies multiple sets of DNA i.e. narratives. The hotel embodies a deeper narrative within its identity based on the relationship between utopia and melancholia and how they can collide. ‘Utopia+Melancholia’ in the space act as opposites that divert, intersect and collide. Melancholia will be an energy that appears to give visitors a sense of longing and providing a sense of attachment to the hotel. It adds a crucial emotive value, allowing people to connect to the space.

Through the selection of a variety of materials including pink marbles, angular shaped tiles, identifiable striped wallpaper, brushed brass joinery and soft velvets, an important focus was to make sure they all express and align with Chimera’s brand identity. Maintaining the balance between the sense of luxury and playfulness was crucial to achieve this.

The circular reception counter surrounding the Chimera sculpture acts as the main focal point of the entrance experience, grabbing visitor’s attention creating an overall playful energy. Attached is custom-banquette seating that is incorporated into the design.
